The NOV Mud Mixing System is controlled by a PLC, mounted in a Control Cabinet. In addition, there is also a MCC for motor starters and frequency converters. Operating and monitoring is performed from a VDU equipped with touch display, latter referred to as a VDU. Signals are exchanged with the PLC and MCC cabinets via Profibus.

The NOV Mud Mix System normally interacts with the NOV Bulk Storage and Transfer System.

1.1 Vacuum Lifter
The vacuum lifter is designed to ease the handling of sacks which will provide the best working environment for the operator. It is operated manually, and turned on or off from the VDU.
The vacuum lifter has a vacuum aggregate and a filter bin in addition to the lifting structure.

Function: As the screw conveyor rotates, the powder is pushed along the casing. The conveyors can be started and stopped manually from the LCP, and will be part of the master machine sequence in automatic mode.

The mud mixer consists of three main parts; the mixer housing, the nozzle and the diffuser.
The NOV mud mixer with hopper is designed for optimal performance when it comes to upgrades of old systems as well as new designed mud mixing systems.

Function:
The Mud Mixer with Hopper is usually controlled by the MCS (Mud Control System), and will operate as a part of the control sequence of other MMS (Mud Mixing System) machines. The mixer valve can be operated manually by means of manual override directly on the valve and/or from LCP (Local Control Panel).

Function: The pumps are creating a vacuum to suck the liquid chemicals out of the barrels, and pump it into the mixing line.

The flow and shearing effect can be optimized by changing nozzles sizes. Please see available nozzle sizes in the attached flow diagram.

Function: As the mud pumps through the HP shear unit, the mud becomes more consistent. The high velocity liquid stream through the shear nozzle(s) creates shear forces as the streams are forced through a small hole.
To operate the unit pump mud through the shearing devise using a high pressure mud pump.
